“...I’ve attended a reception held by Gartwig. He gathers diplomatic corps on Sundays. Young diplomats from all countries look surprisingly the same: impersonal and unimpressive. It is impossible to distinguish what country, what nation they are from - all are shaved and molded from the English model. Impersonal salons’ scum. Gartvig introduced me to George - the former heir, who is known of being unstable and half-mad. Nervous and thin and far from noble type of person. If it were not for the uniform and wing-adjutant’s aiguillette, nobody would recognise the heir. Rather (*) from the Italian opera. But perhaps a man with strong personality, clever and persistent. It seems to me that his song is not yet finished. He was forced to renounce the throne because he kicked a soldier, who died from the shock ...”
